Shocking Development

My mouth dropped open.
My chin hit the ground.
Tear drops fell,
into pools all around.
A crowd stood in silence.
They were stunned with surprise.
They pondered what they witnessed.
They could not believe their eyes.
The wind ceased it’s blowing.
There birds did not sing.
Children spoke in whispers.
To their parents they did cling.
The streets were void of traffic.
Too shocked were most to drive.
Some thought the end was near,
they sought a place to hide.
I didn’t see it coming.
It occurred to me too late.
Soon all became aware.
I was stuck in my fate.
Everyone was awed,
I know just how they feel.
I never would have thought,
I’d forget to eat a meal.
